There’s a post at Monster and Friends reporting a new beta iPhone hack that allows the camera to capture video for 5 secs at 10 fps. Not sure how useful it’ll be, given that there’s only 8GB maximum storage. Perhaps someone would come out with an application that can save the captured video to a remote file storage. That’ll be cool.
Japan’s electronics giant Sony employee Mariko Yamabe displays the world’s first battery-less digital camera “Twil N Take.” Sony on Thursday unveiled a prototype digital camera shaped like a pizza cutter with a wheel that can be turned to generate enough power to take pictures.

Will Steve Jobs unveil a new iPhone Nano or iPhone 2 with 3G support in January’s Macworld Conference in San Francisco? I’m sure Apple fans expect to see multiple model of iPhones, just like the iPod.
The price of an iPhone is rather high for some of us who never have to pay for a mobile phone when signing up for a mobile service contract. An iPhone Nano or Mini would definitely fill this gap and open up and explore the already saturated mobile phone market.
There were complains that the original iPhone using EDGE technology is slow and lacking the speed of 3G or 3.5G. Apple fans will certainly be delighted when a faster version emerge.
Apple will be releasing a SDK for iPhone in February. Is Steve Jobs gonna place more focus in Software innovation rather than introducing newer phone models?
Google announced on 5th Dec the release of a new iPhone application that integrates its multiple services into a single interface, making it easy for iPhone users to find, use and switch between Google search, Gmail, Calendar, Reader, and more. To use the application, iPhone users simply point their web browser to http://www.google.com.
I guess this web application is compatible to iPod Touch as well.
Amazon launched a wireless portable e-book reader called “Kindle” that weighs only 10.3 ounce. Kindle can store over 200 e-books, and supports standard SD memory cards as well; battery life is about 48 hours with the wireless feature on, and a week or more with wireless connectivity disabled. Most best sellers and new releases are priced at $9.99. Amazon claimed that buying and downloading a book via the wireless connection will take less than 60 secs. Kindle utilizes the same high-speed data network (EVDO) as advanced cell phones—so you never have to locate a hotspot. There’s no monthly wireless bills, service plans, or commitments—Amazon take care of the wireless delivery so you can simply click, buy, and read.

Germany is among the first in Europe to launch iPhone. Hundreds of Apple fans braved rain and wind on Friday morning in Cologne, Germany to get their hands on the long awaited “believed to be the most wanted consumer electronics products for Christmas present“.
The cost of iPhone in Germany is euro399 (~US$587) , and 269 pounds (~US$566) in UK, both likely to be tied to a 2-year mobile plan similar to the launch in US.
Apple’s shares closed at $179.30 last night after hitting a high of 192.68 on 7-Nov.
iPhoneSimFree.com has release a software to unlock iPhone. Unlike other hacks released earlier, this software eliminates the need to open up your iPhone and there’s no need to perform any soldering either. Popular independent tech website Gizmodo has made available a video review of an iPhone unlocking with iPhoneSimFree.com. With the recent price cut, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more iPhones appearing in Singapore very soon.
I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.
First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to ‘go for it’ this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone ‘tent’. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.
Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you’ll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.
Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.
Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week. Stay tuned.
We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.
